Recipe: Cuban Bread French Toast
Summary: Now that I know the secret to the prefect French Toast, there is no stopping me! And for my recipe, I really wanted to recreate a Cuban Bread French Toast I had in Miami.
Ingredients
- 1 cup half-and-half
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 (1-inch) slices day-old/stale cuban bread
- 4 tablespoons butter
- powdered sugar and maple syrup for serving

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon vital wheat gluten
- 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) lard
- 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 24-inch strip of pre-soaked kitchen twine
- 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon of water
